What is an ICS code?

The International Classification for Standards (ICS) is a convention managed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and used in catalogues of international, regional and national standards and other normative documents. ICS is a hierarchical classification which consists of three levels (fields, groups and sub-groups). A standard covering e.g. more than one sub-group is classified in all of these sub-groups. ICS ensures language-independent global communication. ICS is regularly updated. The current version is its Seventh edition published in 2015.
