ISO Secretary-General Sergio Mujica on an official visit to the Croatian Standards Institute

14.07.2026.
The Croatian Standards Institute (HZN) was visited by Mr Sergio Mujica, Secretary-General of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). This was the first visit by an ISO official of the highest rank to the Croatian national standards body since the establishment of the Republic of Croatia.

The visit was an opportunity for a working meeting on strengthening the cooperation between ISO and HZN with a particular emphasis on the role of international standards in achieving a sustainable future. International standards make lives simpler, safer and better. They are a key driver of global trade and economic growth, at the same time fostering innovation and promoting citizens’ health and safety.

Ana Marija Boljanović, Director-General of the Croatian Standards Institute, said: “We are very happy that Mr Mujica has put the visit to Zagreb on his schedule. The fact that this is the first visit of an ISO Secretary-General to our Institute since Croatia’s independence is encouraging for me and for all HZN employees, as well as a confirmation that we are an equal partner in shaping global standardization processes.

This is of particular importance in the context of joint activities that ISO conducts with the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). Since HZN is a full member of both organizations, our role is to ensure that the voice of Croatian experts is clearly heard at the global level. The discussions we held confirm that by actively participating in the development of international standards we directly strengthen the competitiveness of our economy, providing strong support to the processes of green and digital transition.”

During the working visit, the ISO Secretary-General was presented the work and achievements of HZN, with a particular emphasis on the importance of stronger involvement of Croatian experts in the work of international technical committees.

As a full member of ISO, the Croatian Standards Institute will continue, through the dedicated work and expertise of its employees, to provide a platform through which Croatian experts, industry and institutions can actively participate in shaping global standards.

Participants in the working meeting were Goran Romek, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy and Chairman of HZN’s Administrative Board, Ana Marija Boljanović, HZN Director-General, HZN employees and experts in various standardization fields, as well as members of technical committees who actively contribute to the development and implementation of Croatian, European and international standards.
